Thomas S. McSherry - Medford NY
Steven D. Townsend - Waterbury CT
Assignee:
Titan Technology, Inc. - Stamford CT
International Classification:
F16B 2100
US Classification:

Abstract:
An anchor assembly for retaining an elongated fastener member within an opening defined by a support wall having at least one concealed side. At least two elongated wire-like legs are positioned in parallel relation and a threaded apertured anchor member is slidably movable along the wire-like leg members and adapted to assume a first position parallel to the legs and to pivot toward a second position generally perpendicular to the legs when the anchor is advanced distally or when the leg members are withdrawn proximally to cause engagement therebetween. A connecting member in the form of a collar is positioned at the proximal ends of the legs and is configured and dimensioned for positioning within the opening of the support wall. The collar defines an aperture dimensioned and configured for reception of the elongated fastener member to facilitate attachment of the elongated fastener member to the anchor member through the threaded aperture when the anchor member is positioned at the distal side of the support wall and has assumed the second position generally perpendicular to the legs. The collar assures alignment of the fastener member with the aperture of the anchor member.

Fastening Element

US Patent:
4181061, Jan 1, 1980
Filed:
Aug 22, 1977
Appl. No.:
5/826865
Inventors:
Thomas W. McSherry - North Babylon NY
Assignee:
Mechanical Plastics Corporation - Pleasantville NY
International Classification:
F16B 1304
US Classification:
85 80
Abstract:
An integrally molded plastic fastening element comprises a head portion, a longitudinally extending body portion having a pair of longitudinally extending pillar-like parts, and a pair of substantially rigid locking arms pivotally connected to each other at their adjacent ends. The rigid arms are pivotally connected to the body portion at the ends of respective pillar-like parts at positions radially adjacent the cross section of the body so that the rigid arms bear the bulk of the load applied to the fastener. The advantages of this structure include enhanced load bearing capability and ease in fabrication. In a preferred embodiment, the body is provided with a central passageway, and the pillar-like parts are curved radially inwardly in order to spring bias the walls of the passageway against an elongated retaining member inserted therein and to spring bias the arms in an over-center locking position.

Anchor Assembly For Fastener

US Patent:
4075924, Feb 28, 1978
Filed:
May 14, 1976
Appl. No.:
5/686323
Inventors:
Thomas W. McSherry - Bay Shore NY
Allan Thaw - Massapequa NY
Assignee:
Mechanical Plastics Corporation - Farmingdale NY
International Classification:
F16B 2100
F16B 1306
US Classification:
85 3R
Abstract:
An anchor assembly for retaining an elongated fastener member within an opening defined by a wall portion of finite thickness and having at least one concealed side. The assembly has at least two elongated leg members of flexible material positioned in parallel relation to each other, with means connecting a pair of adjacent end portions of the leg members together. A generally elongated anchor member is positioned transversely of the leg members and attached to the opposite end portions thereof, the anchor member defining an opening generally medial of the leg members and capable of receiving an elongated fastener member for attachment therewith when the fastener member is positioned between the leg members. Means to connect an end portion of each leg member to the anchor member is provided for each leg member and the leg members and the anchor member connecting means including resilient means associated therewith to bias the anchor member toward its transverse position relative to the leg members against forces tending to rotate the anchor member toward a generally parallel orientation with the leg members, and control of the orientation and position of the anchor member behind the concealed surface of the wall is thereby facilitated by the application of forces either directly or indirectly to the leg members.

Stackable Carton With Reclosable Pour Spout Construction

US Patent:

Abstract:
A fastening device of the type having a stem, toggle arms at the opposite end of the stem, extending outwardly from an extended axis of the stem, a toggle hinge forming a part of the toggle arms and connecting the toggle arms to the stem and elastically biasing the toggle arms in the extended position. The toggle arms are pivotable about the toggle hinge to a closed position extending substantially parallel with the extended axis of the stem. A strap extends across the extended axis of the stem between the extremities of the toggle arms to maintain the toggle arms in the extended position. The extremities of the strap and the toggle arms are connected and a mid-hinge is formed centrally of the strap at the extended axis of the stem so that the portions of the strap on either side of the mid-hinge may pivot about the hinge to move the toggle arms and strap portions to the closed position. Resilient biasing means extend between the strap and toggle arms at positions inwardly displaced from the connections between the extremities of the strap and toggle arms and retain the strap away from the toggle arms with the mid-hinge disposed at or over center and forcing the strap back over center from the closed position. The stem of the fastener is provided with vertical slots to receive portions of the mass of the stem under deformation.
