Applying Differentiated Services Within A Cable Network Using Customer-Aware Network Router

US Patent:
8005083, Aug 23, 2011
Filed:
Oct 30, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/261847
Inventors:
Timothy Diep - Portsmouth NH, US
Assignee:
Juniper Networks, Inc. - Sunnyvale CA
International Classification:
H04L 12/28
US Classification:
370389, 725111
Abstract:
In general, techniques are described to increase customer awareness within a network device of a cable network. Based on this increased awareness, a layer 3 network device, such as a router, may apply services that augment services applied by a Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS). The network device may be positioned between the CMTS and a backend network of the cable network. The network device may include a control unit to access the CMTS to determine network information and at least one network interface that receives network traffic. The control unit may apply at least one of a plurality of services provided by the network device to the network traffic based on the network information learned from the CMTS. Often, at least one of the differentiated services may comprise a service not provided by the CMTS and, consequently, a service that may augment those services currently provided by the CMTS.

Access Control Management

US Patent:
2003011, Jun 19, 2003
Filed:
Dec 19, 2001
Appl. No.:
10/029708
Inventors:
Puqi Tang - Portland OR, US
Timothy Diep - Portsmouth NH, US
Wayne Hlasnik - Sherwood OR, US
International Classification:
G06F015/16
G06F011/30
G06F012/14
US Classification:
709/229000, 713/200000
Abstract:
A method of access control management includes determining a private network address for a user in connection with the user accessing a network resource, determining an access control list entry for the user based on an access control policy, translating a public network address to the private network address for the user accessing the network resource, and allowing or blocking the user access based on the access control list entry, wherein determining the access control list entry is performed before translating the public network address to the private network address.

Topology-Based Presentation Of Expert Triage Workflows

US Patent:
2020011, Apr 9, 2020
Filed:
Oct 9, 2018
Appl. No.:
16/154806
Inventors:
- New York NY, US
Timothy Diep - Portsmouth NH, US
International Classification:
G06F 11/07
G06F 3/0481
G06F 3/0484
Abstract:
A topology-based triage workflow service can display expert generated workflows in conjunction with a topology. A user can select a device experiencing an issue and can walk through a workflow for diagnosing an issue. The service analyzes the workflow to determine which components are related to each troubleshooting step and can highlight them within the topology to indicate to a user the relevant components. The service can also retrieve and display metrics relevant to each step in the workflow. As workflows are used, the service can track users' paths through workflows, troubleshooting success, and feedback. Based on the feedback, the application can improve workflows, suggest root causes of issues, or create automated scripts based on the most popular/successful workflows for solving particular issues.

Efficient Management Of Network Configuration-Dependent Network Functionality

US Patent:
2016038, Dec 29, 2016
Filed:
Jun 29, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/754183
Inventors:
- New York NY, US
Timothy Diep - Portsmouth NH, US
International Classification:
H04L 12/24
Abstract:
Notifications associated with software-defined network components are registered for. A notification is received in accordance with the registration. It is determined that the notification indicates a configuration change to a network associated with the software-defined network components. In response to a determination that the notification indicates the configuration change, a network topology associated with the network is determined. It is determined that one or more network functionalities are impacted by the configuration change based, at least in part, on the network topology. In response to a determination that the one or more network functionalities are impacted by the configuration change, the one or more network functionalities are updated based, at least in part, on the network topology.
