The instant presence system authoritatively determines the present communication location of a subscriber, who may be at any of a number of possible locations. When the subscriber changes their location, they can use a subscriber communication device that is operational at their new location to update their point of presence on the telephone communication network. The instant presence system enables the communication network to complete a communication connection from a calling party to the called party with certainty. The calling party therefore can reach the called party with certainty by simply dialing a single listed directory number associated with the called party, relying on the instant presence system to complete the call connection to the called party, regardless of the present location of the called party.

The network contact center server is configured to control the conduction of an automated web dialogue with the customer via a separate web server and is further configured to control the conduction of an automated voice dialogue with the customer via an interactive voice response system. The automated web dialogue and the automated voice dialogue are thereby both conductable under the control of the network contact center server.

Methods And Apparatus For Alternative Routing Of Text Based Messages On A Cellular Telephone Network

US Patent:
2005003, Feb 17, 2005
Filed:
Aug 15, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/641442
Inventors:
Vijay Gurbani - Lisle IL, US
Xian Sun - Darien IL, US
Assignee:
Lucent Technologies, Inc. - Murray Hill NY
International Classification:
H04Q007/20
US Classification:
455445000, 455466000, 455432300
Abstract:
Systems and techniques for routing and transmission of short message service messages are described. A user profile associated with a wireless telephone includes conditions relating to a user's need or desire to receive a text message through a device other than the wireless telephone and the user's preferences in the event of each of the conditions. The conditions include whether a user's instant messaging client is active. If the client is active, the user profile include the address of the client. When a text message arrives for the user at a wireless telephone switching center, the switching center determines if the message is to be sent to the user through the wireless telephone network, through the internet messaging client or both. Depending on the desired routing of the message, the message is transmitted through the wireless network or formatted and sent as an instant messaging message, or both.

Method Of Informing A Callee Of An Attempted Telephone Call By Means Of Internet Protocol Messaging

US Patent:
2005019, Sep 1, 2005
Filed:
Feb 27, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/788620
Inventors:
Vijay Gurbani - Lisle IL, US
International Classification:
H04L012/66
US Classification:
370352000, 370401000
Abstract:
A method is provided for communication between a telephone caller and a callee of the telephone call in the event of an attempted public switched telephone network (PSTN) call within the PSTN. The attempted call may result from deliberate failure of the callee to answer the telephone or may result from a failure of the PSTN to route the call to the callee. The method includes the linking of a public switched telephone network with an Internet domain network via a PSTN/Internet domain network interface; and upon detection of the attempted PSTN call, having the PSTN inform the Internet domain network interface to provide an message in real time to the intended recipient of the PSTN call via an Internet protocol message. In the case of a PSTN network failure to deliver the call, the PSTN may inform the Internet domain network interface to provide the message in real time via an Internet protocol to a caller-selected list of recipients as well as the callee of the PSTN call when an abnormality is detected in the PSTN. In the case where the callee does not wish to be disturbed with a telephone call, the callee can inform at least one of the PSTN or the Internet domain network interface to provide the message to the callee in real time via an Internet protocol.
