Method For Analyzing Cellular Events

US Patent:
2003003, Feb 13, 2003
Filed:
Aug 13, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/929513
Inventors:
Vivian Liu - San Francisco CA, US
Prasanthi Bhagavatula - Palo Alto CA, US
Uyen Do - San Jose CA, US
John Hefti - San Francisco CA, US
Assignee:
Signature BioScience Inc. - Hayward CA
International Classification:
C12Q001/00
C12Q001/68
US Classification:
435/004000, 205/777500, 435/006000
Abstract:
The present invention makes it possible to detect cellular activity in a sensitive and efficient manner without the use of labels and without knowing specifically what activity is being detected, although detection of specific activity is possible. The assay comprises detecting cellular activity by monitoring a change in a cellular system, comprising coupling an electromagnetic test signal in a specified frequency range to a sample in which a cellular event is being detected, whereby the sample interacts with and modulates the test signal to produce a modulated test signal; detecting the modulated test signal; and analyzing the modulated test signal to detect said cellular event. As such, the present invention is particularly useful in the detection of cellular activity induced by the presence of a test substance in the medium in which a cell is located and provides a number of advantages for lead optimization in the drug discovery field.

Label-Free Method For Classification And Characterization Of Cellular Events

US Patent:
2005001, Jan 20, 2005
Filed:
Jul 14, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/619820
Inventors:
Vivian Liu - Burlingame CA, US
Simon Pitchford - San Francisco CA, US
Chris Fuller - Oakland CA, US
Ed Verdonk - San Jose CA, US
International Classification:
C12Q001/00
G01F001/64
US Classification:
435004000, 205777500
Abstract:
This invention incorporates the use of bioimpedance measurements of intact cells to classify and characterize any unique global cellular event such as signal transduction from ligand/receptor interactions, cytotoxicity, apoptosis, tumor cell progression, or stem cell differentiation. Specifically, we have demonstrated that this invention can classify signal transduction pathways from G-protein coupled, tyrosine kinase, and nuclear receptors.
