Rotary Gear Device

US Patent:
6655344, Dec 2, 2003
Filed:
Mar 5, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/091650
Inventors:
William F. Sager - Ormond Beach FL, 32074
International Classification:
F02B 5304
US Classification:
123238, 123246, 123241, 1482061, 1482013
Abstract:
A rotary gear device comprises a housing a preferably multiple pairs of rotatable meshing gears in coaxial relation defining spaced teeth which extend helically in the direction of the axis of each gear. First chambers are formed by the meshing gears which move substantially longitudinally while shrinking in size to substantially zero volume as they rotate toward a dead center plane. Second chambers are formed between the spaced teeth rotating away from the dead center plane and increasing in volume. Various improvements are provided to this type of device, which maybe used as an internal combustion engine, a pump or as a chemical reactor.

High Velocity Propeller

US Patent:
5810289, Sep 22, 1998
Filed:
Sep 19, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/934188
Inventors:
William F. Sager - Ormond Beach FL
Assignee:
Sager Innovations Inc. - Chicago IL
International Classification:
B64C 1118
B64C 1146
B63H 126
B63H 508
US Classification:
244 6
Abstract:
A propeller for fluid propulsion comprises a pair of substantially rigid blades which rotate about their longest dimension in opposite directions, the blades each being oppositely helically twisted along the longest blade dimension and positioned together in synchronously opposite, rotatable condition, with the rotating blades passing by each other in closely spaced relation substantially without physical contact. The blades occupy a tubular housing enclosing the rotating blades in closely-spaced relation between the housing and blades. Further sealing is provided by each blade side carrying a hemicylindrical wall with a concave side facing outwardly, each hemicylindrical wall being helically twisted in a manner identical to the helical twist of the blade. The hemicylindrical walls have a cross-sectional diameter that permits, upon blade rotation, an edge of the other blade to sweep across the concave side of each hemicylindrical wall in closely spaced relation for sealing purposes.

Rotary Pump Having Helical Gear Teeth With A Small Angle Of Wrap

US Patent:
5108275, Apr 28, 1992
Filed:
Dec 17, 1990
Appl. No.:
7/628837
Inventors:
William F. Sager - Ormond Beach FL
International Classification:
F04C 216
US Classification:
4182013
Abstract:
A rotary pump comprises a housing and at least a pair of rotatable, meshing gears positioned within the housing. The meshing gears define teeth which extend helically in the general direction of the axis of each gear rotation. A flow inlet and a flow outlet are positioned in the housing to permit fluid to flow longitudinally along the gears generally in the direction of said axis as the gears rotate relative to each other. By this invention, the helically extending teeth define on at least one of the gears a total angle of wrap from end-to-end of the gear upon which they are carried of essentially 360 divided by twice the number of teeth on the gear, in degrees, multiplied by a number N of 1/2 to 3. This relatively low total angle of wrap provides significant improvements in gear pumps.

High Velocity Propeller

US Patent:
5810288, Sep 22, 1998
Filed:
Jun 20, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/492819
Inventors:
William F. Sager - Ormond Beach FL
International Classification:
B64C 1118
B64C 1146
B63H 126
B63H 508
US Classification:
244 65
Abstract:
A propeller for fluid propulsion (such as air or water) comprises a pair of substantially rigid blades. The blades are mounted for rotation about respective, separate, parallel rotation axes, with the axes being also substantially parallel to the longest dimension of the blades. The blades each define a plate that is oppositely helically twisted along the longest blade dimension compared with the other blade. The blades are positioned together in synchronously opposite, rotatable condition, with the rotating blades passing by each other in closely spaced relation without physical contact. A tubular housing encloses the rotating blades in closely-spaced relation between the housing and blades. Such a blade system can provide a high velocity jet of large mass at relatively low rotational speed.

Rotary Gear Pump With Vanes

US Patent:
5845617, Dec 8, 1998
Filed:
Dec 2, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/755895
Inventors:
William F. Sager - Ormond Beach FL
Assignee:
Sager Innovations Inc. - Chicago IL
International Classification:
F02B 5300
F04C 216
US Classification:
123238
Abstract:
A rotary gear pump comprises a housing and at least a pair of rotatable, meshing gears positioned within the housing. The meshing gears define spaced teeth which extend helically in the general direction of the axis of each gear rotation. A flow inlet and flow outlet are provided, each positioned in the housing to permit flow of fluid substantially longitudinally of the rotation axes between the meshing gears as the gears rotate said teeth through a tooth-meshing area. At least one first vane covers the teeth of each gear at a rotational position upstream of the tooth-meshing area, to shield the covered teeth from an energy-consuming backflow of fluid from said tooth-meshing area as the gears rotate. Also, fixed-volume furnaces are used to receive and distribute compressed, burning gases from closing chambers formed between the teeth to opening chambers across the top dead center position.

Apparatus For Delivering A Controllable Variable Flow Of Pressurized Fluid

US Patent:
5016440, May 21, 1991
Filed:
Oct 13, 1989
Appl. No.:
7/421353
Inventors:
William F. Sager - Ormond Beach FL
International Classification:
F16D 3102
US Classification:
60429
Abstract:
Apparatus is provided for delivering a controllable, variable flow of pressurized fluid. Conduits define a circulating fluid flow system, the flow system passing through a transducer for transferring energy as a mechanical input or output to or from pressurized fluid circulating in the system. At least first and second volumetric pumps are connected to conduits of the flow system in parallel relation to each other and in flow communication with the transducer. An operating shaft, preferably a single shaft, engages the first and second pumps. Valves and piping are provided for selectively shunting and isolating the first and second pumps from the fluid flow system. Thus, energy applied to the fluid flow system through either the shaft or transducer may be applied to the other of the shaft or transducer with variable pressure and flow velocity in the flow system, depending on whether one or both of the pumps are in operating mode with the flow system.
