Methods Of Sterilizing Elastomeric Sealing Articles

US Patent:
7758806, Jul 20, 2010
Filed:
Aug 23, 2006
Appl. No.:
11/508553
Inventors:
Xia Zhao - Malvern PA, US
Assignee:
Becton, Dickinson and Company - Franklin Lakes NJ
International Classification:
A61L 2/07
A61L 2/08
US Classification:
422 22, 422 26, 422 28
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method sterilizing butyl rubber/styrene butadiene rubber (SBR) articles used in syringes or medical containers, comprising irradiating the butyl rubber/SBR elastomeric copolymer rubber article with gamma irradiation, wherein the SBR elastomeric copolymer comprises about 5% to about 50% of the rubber composition on a basis of total weight of the composition; and then exposing the irradiated rubber composition to a sterilizing gas for a time period sufficient to sterilize the rubber composition. The irradiated, sterilized rubber composition of the present invention is capable of maintaining superior performance standards with respect to sealability, recoverability from stress and elasticity.

US Classification:
428391, 604228, 427 228, 428450, 206365, 525391
Abstract:
The present invention provides a coating system for an article including a first component having a surface in frictional engagement with a surface of a second component, wherein at least a portion of at least one surface of the component(s) is coated with a coating prepared from a composition including a first, curable organopolysiloxane comprising at least two alkenyl groups; and a second, curable organopolysiloxane comprising at least two polar groups, the second organopolysiloxane being different from the first organopolysiloxane, which can provide low breakloose force when used in syringe assemblies.

Terminal Sterilization Of Prefilled Containers

US Patent:
2005012, Jun 16, 2005
Filed:
Dec 15, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/736489
Inventors:
Xia Zhao - Livingston NJ, US
Jane Ren - Warren NJ, US
Robert Odell - Franklin Lakes NJ, US
Patti Paterson - Branchville NJ, US
International Classification:
A61L002/08
US Classification:
422022000
Abstract:
A method for inhibiting adverse reaction of the contents of a prefilled container during a radiation sterilization procedure is disclosed. In the method, a container which is made of a material including a radiation stable polyolefin is prefilled with a medium prior to being subjected to a gamma irradiation sterilization treatment. By using a radiation stable polyolefin material as the container, such as a polyolefin with a radiation stabilizer additive, and by prefilling the container prior to the gamma irradiation treatment, the container can be effectively sterilized without adversely affecting its contents.

Tpe Composition Having Good Clarity And Low Hardness And Articles Formed Therefrom

US Patent:
2010033, Dec 30, 2010
Filed:
Jul 2, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/666089
Inventors:
Xia Zhao - Malvern PA, US
Assignee:
WEST PHARMACEUTICAL SERVICES, INC. - Lionville PA
International Classification:
C08L 53/00
C08K 5/5419
US Classification:
524261, 524505
Abstract:
A thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) composition is provided which has a first high vinyl styrenic block copolymer (SBC) having a number average molecular weight (Mn) less than about 120,000 Daltons (Da) and a second high vinyl SBC having a Mn greater than about 120,000 Da; a polyolefin; and a plasticizer compatible with the first and second SBCs. An article formed from such a TPE composition has a tensile strength greater than 600 psi, a hardness less than 45 Shore A, and a haze less than 20 percent, preferably less than 15 percent, when the thickness of the article is 1.7 mm, and wherein the physical dimensions of the article remain substantially unchanged after immersion of the article in boiling water for one hour.

Tpe Composition Having Good Reseal, Articles Produced Therefrom, And Method

US Patent:
2012005, Mar 1, 2012
Filed:
May 20, 2009
Appl. No.:
13/266259
Inventors:
Xia Zhao - Malvern PA, US
Assignee:
WEST PHARMACEUTICAL SERVICES, INC. - Lionville PA
International Classification:
B29C 73/20
C08K 5/01
C08L 23/12
C08L 53/02
C08L 53/00
US Classification:
524505
Abstract:
A thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) composition is provided which contains a blend of a hydrogenated styrenic block copolymer (SBC) having a number average molecular weight (Mn) greater than about 200,000 Daltons (Da), a polypropylene, a mineral oil, and at least one filler. The composition has a hardness less than about 80 Shore A and is resealable. An article produced from such a TPE composition reseals itself so as to exhibit no leakage after puncture. A method for preventing leakage in an elastomeric article involves providing an elastomeric article formed from the TPE composition, puncturing the elastomeric article by inserting a sharp object, and removing the sharp object; the article reseals itself such that no leakage occurs from the punctured article after removal of the sharp object.
