Abstract:
A framework is provided for diagnosing and resolving wireless connectivity-related issues. For example, some embodiments of the invention provide a “health monitor” which monitors and logs wireless connectivity-related events occurring on the device, the network, and the one or more resources to which the device is connected. The health monitor may analyze these events and/or other information to determine when a connectivity problem may have arisen, and if a problem is determined to be imminent or to have occurred, may initiate recovery procedures. In some embodiments, the monitoring of events, analysis to determine whether a connectivity problem has arisen, and the recovery from the problem occur transparently to the user.

Computational Cluster Power Consumption And Availability Management

US Patent:
2013008, Mar 28, 2013
Filed:
Sep 23, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/241614
Inventors:
Lanlan Cong - Shanghai, CN
Renqi Zhu - Shanghai, CN
Yang Zhang - Redmond WA, US
Assignee:
MICROSOFT CORPORATION - Redmond WA
International Classification:
G06F 1/26
US Classification:
713340
Abstract:
Power consumption and computational availability of a cluster are automatically managed by monitoring consumption, predicting demand based on a job queue and/or historic data, and checking certain conditions and constraints. Threshold conditions for switching the cluster's capacity level are based on the current level and the predicted demand. Switching levels is avoided when a stability constraint would be violated. Cluster capacity levels can be uniformly or nonuniformly spaced, and may have decreasing gaps between levels as capacity decreases. Capacity level definitions and level switching conditions and constraints may be defaults and/or be provided by an administrator.

Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided for assigning resources in a cloud computing environment via a spot pricing process. The spot pricing process allows virtual machines to be assigned on a preemptible basis to pools based on bids associated with the pools. The bids can be used to determine a price for assignment of preemptible virtual machines. Preemptible virtual machines can then be assigned to pools based at least in part on the submitted bids in relation to the determined price.

Abstract:
Systems and methods are presented for providing resources by way of a platform as a service in a distributed computing environment to perform a job. Resources of the system, job performing on the system, and schedulers of the jobs performing on the system are decoupled in a manner that allows a job to easily migrate among resources. It is contemplated that the migration of jobs from a first pool of resource to a second pool of resource is performed by the system without human intervention. The migration of a job may utilize different schedulers for the different resources. Further, it is contemplated that a pool of resources may automatically allocate additional or fewer resources in response to a migration of a job.
