Parasol Opening Device

US Patent:
2002012, Sep 19, 2002
Filed:
Mar 13, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/803963
Inventors:
Mark Ma - Cerritos CA, US
International Classification:
A45B011/00
E04H015/28
A45B023/00
E04H015/60
US Classification:
135/098000, 135/114000, 135/020300, 135/020100, 135/021000
Abstract:
A parasol opening device is incorporated in a parasol for opening/closing a canopy of the parasol. The parasol includes a tubular post for movably receiving the parasol opening device therein. The parasol opening device is movable along the post between an open position and a closed position. A canopy support arm has a first end pivotally attached to the parasol opening device and a second end to which a canopy system is pivoted. A link has a first end pivoted to the post and a second end pivotally attached to a slide which is movable along the arm. A rope having a predetermined and fixed length partially extends through the post, the parasol opening device and the arm with a first end of the rope fixed to the post and a second end of the rope attached to a runner of the canopy system whereby driving the rope causes the canopy system to open/close. The parasol opening device includes a movement control device for guiding/controlling the parasol opening device to move along the post between the open position and the closed position and thus driving the rope to open/close the canopy system.

Umbrella Having A Pivot Joint To Provide Additional Degrees Of Freedom Of Orientation Of Its Canopy

US Patent:
2015024, Sep 3, 2015
Filed:
Mar 5, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/639798
Inventors:
Mark J.S. MA - Pomona CA, US
International Classification:
A45B 23/00
Abstract:
An umbrella having a support arm, a canopy having a support hub defining a first axis, and a pivot joint coupling the support hub to the support structure. The pivot joint is rotatable with respect to the support structure, about a second axis at a fixed angle with respect to the support structure. The pivot joint has a rotatable joint axle rotatably coupled to the support structure, and a tilt joint axle having a first end rotatably coupled to the rotatable joint axle along an interface plane at an angle, and a second end coupled to the support hub, wherein the tilt joint axle defines a longitudinal third axis. The orientation of the canopy can be changed with respect to the support structure by rotating the rotatable joint axle about the second axis.

Umbrella Having A Pivot Joint To Provide Additional Degrees Of Freedom Of Orientation Of Its Canopy

US Patent:
2014031, Oct 23, 2014
Filed:
Mar 10, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/203541
Inventors:
Mark J.S. MA - Pomona CA, US
International Classification:
A45B 17/00
US Classification:
135 201
Abstract:
An umbrella having the crown of the canopy coupled to a support structure via a pivot joint that is structured and configured to allow swiveling and/or tilting of the canopy with ease by a user, in more than one plane or with more than one degree of freedom with respect to the support structure. The canopy frame includes a longitudinal central support hub, and the pivot joint is rotatable about a rotation axis, wherein the axis of the canopy support hub makes a fixed or variable non-zero angle with respect to the pivot joint rotation axis. As a result of the angle between the pivot joint rotation axis and the canopy support hub axis. The rotation of the pivot joint causes tilting of the canopy support hub axis, thus tilting the canopy to change its orientation.
