Checkpoint Consolidation For Multiple Data Streams

US Patent:
7921328, Apr 5, 2011
Filed:
Apr 18, 2008
Appl. No.:
12/106166
Inventors:
Shvetima Gulati - San Jose CA, US
Hitesh Sharma - Santa Clara CA, US
Atul R. Pandit - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
Network Appliance, Inc. - Sunnyvale CA
International Classification:
G06F 11/00
US Classification:
714 6, 714 15, 714 20
Abstract:
A mirror destination storage server receives mirror update data streams from several mirror source storage servers. Data received from each mirror is cached and periodic checkpoints are queued, but the data is not committed to long-term storage at the mirror destination storage server immediately. Instead, the data remains in cache memory until a trigger event causes the cache to be flushed to a mass storage device. The trigger event is asynchronous with respect to packets of at least one of the data streams. In one embodiment, the trigger event is asynchronous with respect to packets of all of the data streams.

Method And System For Stateful Storage Processing In Storage Area Networks

US Patent:
2005004, Feb 24, 2005
Filed:
Oct 17, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/688848
Inventors:
Kumar Sundararajan - Fremont CA, US
Dharmesh Shah - San Jose CA, US
Sanjay Sawhney - Cupertino CA, US
Atul Pandit - Sunnyvale CA, US
Aseem Vaid - San Jose CA, US
Richard Moeller - San Jose CA, US
Assignee:
NeoScale Systems, Inc. - Milpitas CA
International Classification:
H04K001/00
US Classification:
380256000
Abstract:
A system (and methods) for performing a service operation on a Fibre Channel or other like channels. The system has an interface coupled to a Fibre Channel. A classifier is coupled to the interface. The classifier is adapted to receive an initiator frame from the interface. The classifier is adapted to determine header information from the initiator frame and is also adapted to determine source information, destination information, and exchange information from the header information. A flow content addressable memory is coupled to the classifier. The flow content addressable memory is configured to store one or more header information. Each of the one or more header information is associated with a state. The system has a rule content addressable memory coupled to the classifier. The rule content addressable memory is configured to store one of a plurality of policies. A processing module is coupled to the classifier. The processing module is adapted to process an incoming payload associated with the initiator frame and the header information.

System And Method To Identify Changed Data Blocks

US Patent:
2009000, Jan 1, 2009
Filed:
Jun 28, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/770589
Inventors:
Michael L. Federwisch - Sunnyvale CA, US
Atul R. Pandit - Sunnyvale CA, US
Kapil Kumar - Sunnyvale CA, US
International Classification:
G06F 12/16
US Classification:
711162, 707E1701
Abstract:
Differences between data objects stored on a mass storage device can be identified quickly and efficiently by comparing block numbers stored in data structures that describe the data objects. Bit-by-bit or byte-by-byte comparisons of the objects' actual data need only be performed if the block numbers are different. Objects that share many data blocks can be compared much faster than by a direct comparison of all the objects' data. The fast comparison techniques can be used to improve storage server mirrors and database storage operations, among other applications.

Methods For Securely Facilitating Data Protection Workflows And Devices Thereof

US Patent:
2022031, Oct 6, 2022
Filed:
Jun 14, 2022
Appl. No.:
17/839862
Inventors:
- San Jose CA, US
Abhishek Naidu - San Jose CA, US
Paul Ngan - Redwood City CA, US
Paul Mu - San Jose CA, US
Atul Pandit - Los Gatos CA, US
International Classification:
G06F 11/14
H04L 41/0816
H04L 49/00
H04L 9/40
H04L 67/1097
G06F 16/2452
G06F 16/2453
Abstract:
Methods, non-transitory machine readable media, and computing devices that more securely facilitate data protection workflows are disclosed. With this technology, identification information for primary inbound and outbound queues is extracted from a registration token received from an administrator device. A registration request is inserted into the primary outbound queue using the identification information and one or more communication networks that are external to a data center. The primary inbound queue is polled using the identification information and the communication networks to retrieve messages from a backup service computing device that instantiated the queues and generated the registration token. Accordingly, nodes in a data center can communicate more securely with a cloud backup service via queues and without exposing any HTTP ports to the backup service. Advantageously, the backup service can learn the topology of a storage cluster and manage data protection workflows via communications with one of the constituent nodes.
