US Patent:
6659281, Dec 9, 2003
Filed:
Feb 20, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/079357
Inventors:
Robert C. Gaffney - Sun Prairie WI
Gerald A. Albright - Middleton WI
Bruce L. Winkler - Madison WI
Julie A. Strasser - Madison WI
Robert G. LaMasney - Cross Plains WI
Larry K. Bauer - Madison WI
Assignee:
Rayovac Corporation - Madison WI
International Classification:
B65D 8500
US Classification:
206704, 206471
Abstract:
A battery pack suitable for use with button cell batteries. The battery pack includes a flexible card and a cover rotatably fixed relative to said flexible card. A backing is interposed between the card and said cover, and fixed relative to said card. The backing and cover define an enclosed space interposed between the cover and the backing for receiving batteries. Batteries disposed in the space are enclosed by the cover and backing to inhibit pilfering by bending the card.

Flashlight Having Illuminated Accessories

US Patent:
2001003, Oct 18, 2001
Filed:
Dec 29, 2000
Appl. No.:
09/752224
Inventors:
Bruce Winkler - Madison WI, US
John Sedovic - Middleton WI, US
Robert Gold - Madison WI, US
International Classification:
F21L004/00
US Classification:
362/208000
Abstract:
A flashlight using a single light source is provided having an accessory, such as a magnetic compass or a level, attached thereto. A light conduit communicates light from the light source to the accessory to provide adequate illumination during periods of low ambient light to allow a user to view the accessory. Accordingly, the flashlight uses a single light source that provides both the directed light beam for the flashlight, and the illumination of the accessory. The flashlight optionally includes an integral or attachable compartment for storing valuables or additional accessories.

Sterilization System With Ultraviolet Emitter For Eradicating Biological Contaminants

US Patent:
2012022, Sep 6, 2012
Filed:
Feb 24, 2012
Appl. No.:
13/404781
Inventors:
Patrick Flaherty - Bettendorf IA, US
Bruce L. Winkler - Madison WI, US
Robert J. Gold - Jackson Heights NY, US
International Classification:
A61L 2/10
US Classification:
2502141, 2504921, 901 1
Abstract:
An exemplary sterilization system includes a self-propelled robotic mobile platform for locating and eradicating infectious bacterial and virus strains on floors (and objects thereon), walls, cabinets, angled structures, etc., using one or more ultraviolet light sources. A controller allows the system to adjust the quantity of ultraviolet light received by a surface by, for example, changing the intensity of energy input to a ultraviolet light source, changing a distance between a ultraviolet light source and a surface being irradiated, changing the speed/movement of the mobile platform to affect time of exposure, and/or by returning to contaminated areas for additional passes. The mobile platform may include a sensor capable of detecting fluorescence of biological contaminants irradiated with ultraviolet light to locate contaminated areas. The system is thus capable of “seek and destroy” functionality by navigating towards contaminated areas and irradiating those areas with ultraviolet light accordingly.

Training Accessories For Goal-Making Games

US Patent:
5584481, Dec 17, 1996
Filed:
Jun 26, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/673740
Inventors:
Michael J. Caluori - Verona WI
Bruce L. Winkler - Madison WI
International Classification:
A63B 6900
US Classification:
273 572
Abstract:
An easy to use, self-adjusting device for creating a visual representation of the region within which a hockey puck must travel to score a goal from any position in front of a goal has two retractable cords which are attached at one end to a hockey stick and at the other to retractable spring take-up reels. The reels are releasably attached to the goal by a hook and loop fastener. Each cord extends from the reel to an elastic bungee-cord-type band that extends to a releasable clip connected to a removable bracket on the hockey stick. The cords are extended and retracted from the reel with movement of the hockey stick away from the goal to visually define the region of puck travel, and to permit on-the-fly demonstration of possible puck trajectories to both an offensive player and a goaltender, aiding these students in developing their hockey playing skills.

Fluid Flow Indicator

US Patent:
5645011, Jul 8, 1997
Filed:
Jul 28, 1994
Appl. No.:
8/282531
Inventors:
Bruce Winkler - Madison WI
Rocky Van Asten - Madison WI
Assignee:
PDQ Food Stores, Inc. - Middleton WI
International Classification:
G01F 1500
B01D 3500
US Classification:
116264
Abstract:
A fluid flow indicator is presented particularly for use within an existing gasoline pumping apparatus. The fluid flow indicator includes an outer cage member, a first hollow transparent cylindrical member contained within the outer cage member, and a second hollow transparent cylindrical member concentrically retained within the first hollow transparent cylindrical member. The fluid flow indicator may also include a filter member and fluid movement detection means contained within the second hollow transparent cylindrical member. The fluid flow indicator is especially designed to be retrofitted within any existing fluid flow line.

Apparatus And Method For Producing Open-Topped Cylindrical Containers From Closed-Topped Cylindrical Containers

US Patent:
6000262, Dec 14, 1999
Filed:
Aug 12, 1998
Appl. No.:
9/133138
Inventors:
William C. Dries - Madison WI
Bruce Winkler - Madison WI
International Classification:
B21D 5138
US Classification:
72 70
Abstract:
Apparata and methods are shown and described for converting closed-topped containers, e. g. , common aluminum beverage cans and steel food cans, into open-topped containers having open top mouths surrounded by a smooth rounded lip. In a preferred version of the invention, a closed-topped container, e. g. , an aluminum can, is inserted within a casing so that its top protrudes outwardly therefrom. A tubular ram having a cutter situated therein is inserted over the can top and rotated with respect to the can to sever the can top from the remainder of the can. The ram is then withdrawn and inverted to reveal an annular bending groove facing the cut upper can sidewall. The ram is then screwed onto the casing to bring the bending groove onto the cut upper can sidewall, thereby bending a rolled lip on the can sidewall. The closed-topped can is thus converted into a cup-like open-topped container.
