Distribution Apparatus For Contact Of Hydrocarbon Compounds With Particles

US Patent:
7601304, Oct 13, 2009
Filed:
Sep 9, 2004
Appl. No.:
10/936871
Inventors:
Paolo Palmas - Des Plaines IL, US
Daniel N. Myers - Arlington Heights IL, US
Todd P. Mitchell - Bartlett IL, US
James W. Althoff - Chicago IL, US
Assignee:
UOP LLC - Des Plaines IL
International Classification:
B01J 8/18
F27B 15/00
US Classification:
422140, 422142, 422139, 239 1, 261 19, 208113
Abstract:
Disclosed is an apparatus for injecting a plurality of uniform jets into an extended dispersion of moving catalyst particles within a reactor vessel. The apparatus comprises a plurality of outer conduits each for carrying atomizing fluid. A plurality of tips in the outer conduits each include a plurality of orifices for spraying a mixture of feed and atomizing fluid. Inner conduits with outlets within the outer conduits delivers feed to the tips of the outer conduits.

Contained Separation System For Fcc Reaction Downcomer

US Patent:
5843377, Dec 1, 1998
Filed:
Aug 26, 1996
Appl. No.:
8/703236
Inventors:
James A. Fandel - Schaumburg IL
David A. Lomas - Barrington IL
Steven Niewiedzial - Hoffman Estates IL
Daniel R. Johnson - Schaumburg IL
James Althoff - Arlington Heights IL
Assignee:
UOP LLC - Des Plaines IL
International Classification:
F27B 1508
US Classification:
422144
Abstract:
An FCC separation arrangement for a catalyst and hydrocarbon contacting zone having a downcomer terminus section uses a compact separation vessel to provide a quick separation between catalyst and hydrocarbon gases in a compact area that also accommodates the use of cyclone separators for a further removal of catalyst from the hydrocarbon gases. The separation system uses a gas collection conduit that incorporates an expansion element for accommodating differential growth between the riser separation vessel and cyclones in the same compact area. The system is suitable for single downcomers or multiple downcomers. The system can be used with a closed containment vessel or in an entirely open system that eliminates the use of a containment vessel.

Vapor Distribution System In A Concentric Reboiler

US Patent:
2023007, Mar 9, 2023
Filed:
Aug 28, 2022
Appl. No.:
17/897171
Inventors:
- Des Plaines IL, US
Trung Pham - Fox River Grove IL, US
Stephanie Fuyue Li - Mount Prospect IL, US
Zhanping Xu - Inverness IL, US
James Althoff - Wilmette IL, US
International Classification:
B01D 3/32
F28D 1/04
F28F 13/06
F28D 1/02
B01D 3/00
Abstract:
Heat exchangers (also referred to as exchangers herein) are provided that fit within a bottom sump of a distillation column. These heat exchangers may be at least partially submerged in the bottoms fluid of the distillation column so that the exterior surface of the heat exchanger can contribute to the total area of the heat exchanger. The internal configuration of the exchanger allows for annular coaxial flow of the hot fluid (condensing vapor stream) and eliminates the need for top and bottom channel heads.

Apparatus And Process For Gas-Solids Separation

US Patent:
2019009, Apr 4, 2019
Filed:
Sep 30, 2017
Appl. No.:
15/721884
Inventors:
- Des Plaines IL, US
Roger L. Throndson - Schaumburg IL, US
James W. Althoff - Chicago IL, US
International Classification:
B04C 3/04
B04C 3/06
B04C 9/00
B01D 45/14
Abstract:
A process and apparatus of a gas-solids separator are provided in which a cap is disposed across an upstream end of swirl blades in a cyclonic separator to protect the blades from erosion by fast traveling solids.

Process And Apparatus For Regenerating Catalyst

US Patent:
2017008, Mar 23, 2017
Filed:
Sep 14, 2016
Appl. No.:
15/265456
Inventors:
- Des Plaines IL, US
Paolo Palmas - Des Plaines IL, US
Quan Yuan - Buffalo Grove IL, US
James W. Althoff - Chicago IL, US
International Classification:
B01J 38/26
B01J 8/08
B01J 8/12
Abstract:
A baffle is installed on the wall of a regenerator vessel to push catalyst away from the wall to ensure adequate exposure to regeneration gas and complete combustion of coke from the catalyst. We have found that in deep beds, catalyst can flow down the walls and escape sufficient exposure to regeneration gas and undergo too little regeneration.

Sealing System For A Fluid Catalyst Cracking Regenerator

US Patent:
2016003, Feb 4, 2016
Filed:
Jul 31, 2014
Appl. No.:
14/448146
Inventors:
- Des Plaines IL, US
Michael A. Stine - Lake Zurich IL, US
Mark A. La Vine - Carol Stream IL, US
Melvin Paden - Kalispell MT, US
Patrick D. Walker - Park Ridge IL, US
James W. Althoff - Wilmette IL, US
International Classification:
B01J 8/24
B01J 38/12
Abstract:
A regenerator for an FCC apparatus. The regenerator includes a riser inside of a shell. The riser includes a cone and a cone skirt. An annulus is formed between the riser and the shell. A sealing system for keeping catalyst out of a portion of the annulus comprises a first sealing element and a second sealing element disposed above the second sealing element. The second sealing element comprises a ring having one or more plates being movable to accommodate the thermal expansion of the riser.
