Jan 6, 2011
Appl. No.:
12/985576
Inventors:
Brian E. Beechie - Armada MI, US
John D. Mueller - Southfield MI, US
Jeffrey M. Orzechowski - Troy MI, US
Anurag Peter Varma - Royal Oak MI, US
Mary Gerber - West Bloomfield MI, US
Assignee:
Chrysler Group LLC - Auburn Hills MI
International Classification:
F16H 57/04
US Classification:
475161
Abstract:
An axle system is provided that included an axle assembly having an axle member, a gear coupled with the axle member, and a housing encasing a lubrication fluid and at least a portion of the axle member and the gear therein. A device may selectively heat and/or cool the lubrication fluid at one or more regions of the axle system.

Driver Selectable Low Speed Mode For Disabling Stop/Start Technology

US Patent:
8485941, Jul 16, 2013
Filed:
Mar 8, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/042504
Inventors:
Brian E. Beechie - Armada MI, US
John D. Mueller - Southfield MI, US
Jeffrey M. Orzechowski - Troy MI, US
Anurag Peter Varma - Royal Oak MI, US
Assignee:
Chrysler Group LLC - Auburn Hills MI
International Classification:
B60W 10/04
B60W 10/10
US Classification:
477110, 477 99
Abstract:
A driver controllable low speed mode for a stop/start technology-equipped vehicle. The vehicle comprises an internal combustion engine with stop/start technology having an engine controller, a transmission connected to the internal combustion engine, and a shifter connected to the transmission and the engine controller. The shifter is operable to place the transmission into one of a plurality of operating modes, the operating modes including at least a low speed mode wherein stop/start technology is disabled. The engine controller is operable to detect vehicle operation above a speed or acceleration threshold and cause an audible chime or message to be played or a visual cue displayed to prompt the driver to deactivate the low speed mode. The engine controller is further operable to detect a sustained acceleration attempt when the transmission is in low speed mode and to disable low speed mode for a predetermined period of time upon this detection.

System And Method For Vehicle Range Extension On Detection Of A Low Fuel Condition

US Patent:
2011015, Jun 23, 2011
Filed:
Dec 18, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/641746
Inventors:
Brian E. Beechie - Armada MI, US
John D. Mueller - Southfield MI, US
Jeffrey M. Orzechowski - Troy MI, US
Anurag Peter Varma - Royal Oak MI, US
Mary R. Gerber - West Bloomfield MI, US
Troy J. Davis - Marine City MI, US
Glenn F. Syrowik - Holly MI, US
International Classification:
G06F 7/00
F02D 45/00
G01C 21/36
US Classification:
701 29, 701102
Abstract:
The technology described herein provides a system and method for automatically increasing the remaining driving range of a vehicle when a low fuel or other condition is detected by altering the operating parameters of one or more vehicle systems to improve propulsion system efficiency and thereby lower fuel consumption. The vehicle range extending system is capable of altering the operating parameters of any vehicle system, including for example variable displacement settings, start-stop technology settings, and HVAC operation. The disclosed technology can also provide information to the driver, suggesting which system operating parameters should be altered to reduce the fuel consumption rate.

Torque Converter

US Patent:
2020010, Apr 2, 2020
Filed:
Sep 28, 2018
Appl. No.:
16/146255
Inventors:
Thomas F. Wentworth - Sterling Heights MI, US
Gregory A. Sbroglia - Farmington Hills MI, US
Jeffrey M. Orzechowski - Troy MI, US
International Classification:
F16H 45/02
F16H 41/24
Abstract:
A torque converter for a vehicle includes an impeller, a turbine, a stator positioned between the impeller and the turbine, a one-way clutch coupled to the stator and configured to couple to a fixed member, and a controllable clutch assembly. The controllable clutch assembly is configured to selectively engage the stator and the turbine such that the stator is able to rotate with the turbine to facilitate preventing the stator from reacting against the one-way clutch and applying a load to the fixed member and thereby facilitating reducing an output of the torque converter and reducing engine vibration during idle, and disengage the stator from the turbine to enable relative rotation between the stator and turbine.

Active Vehicle Chassis Dampening Systems And Methods

US Patent:
2019033, Nov 7, 2019
Filed:
May 2, 2018
Appl. No.:
15/969187
Inventors:
Jeffrey M. Orzechowski - Troy MI, US
Brian D. Dwyer - Ortonville MI, US
Gregory A. Sbroglia - Farmington Hills MI, US
Peter Kalinowsky - White Lake MI, US
Matthew Kamps - Wyoming MI, US
International Classification:
B60W 50/00
B60W 10/06
B60W 10/30
B60W 30/182
B60W 30/188
F16F 15/00
Abstract:
A system and method for calibrating and controlling an active dampening system for a chassis of a vehicle having an engine involve operating the engine in a cylinder deactivation mode and, during the cylinder deactivation mode, (i) receiving, from a set of sensors, measured vibrations on first and second frame rails of the chassis, (ii) generating control signals for a set of actuators based on the measured vibration of the first and second frame rails, each actuator being configured to generate a vibrational force in at least one direction, and (iii) outputting, to the set of actuators, the control signals, wherein receipt of the control signals cause the set of actuators to generate vibrational forces that dampen the vibration of the first and second frame rails, respectively, to decrease noise/vibration/harshness (NVH).

Supercharger With Integrated Contraction Chamber For Noise Attenuation

US Patent:
2017002, Jan 26, 2017
Filed:
Jul 23, 2015
Appl. No.:
14/806798
Inventors:
Jeffrey M. Orzechowski - Troy MI, US
Ian McLean - Windsor, CA
Neil W. Loughlin - Ortonville MI, US
Sean A. Keyes - Shelby Township MI, US
International Classification:
F04C 29/06
F04C 18/16
Abstract:
A supercharger for a vehicle includes a lower body housing a compressor and an upper lid having a contraction chamber. The upper lid includes an air circulation port and is configured to be coupled to the lower body thereby forming a plenum. The contraction chamber is integrally formed in the upper lid adjacent to the air circulation port and includes an attenuator plate that defines a tuning neck. The tuning neck defines an inlet to and part of a volume of the contraction chamber, and includes a predetermined size and shape configured to attenuate a desired sound frequency generated by operation of the supercharger.
