Locomotive Diagnostic System

US Patent:
6377876, Apr 23, 2002
Filed:
Dec 17, 1998
Appl. No.:
09/213350
Inventors:
Robert Arvin Hedeen - Clifton Park NY
Steven Hector Azzaro - Schenectady NY
Robert John Naumiec - Clifton Park NY
Slawomir Marian Zaremba - Niskayuna NY
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
G06F 1700
US Classification:
701 19, 701 29, 701 34, 701 36, 246 1 R
Abstract:
A locomotive diagnostic system. A first sensor outputs a measurement of a first state variable (such as vibration) of a first locomotive component, such as a blower fan bearing set, and a second sensor outputs a measurement of a second state variable (such as rotational speed) of a second locomotive component, such as a blower fan shaft. The first state variable is indicative of the operation of the first component and is dependent on the second state variable. Data represents, for each of a number of different values of the second state variable, first, second, and third ranges of values of the first state variable which indicate, respectively, normal, worn, and failed operation of the first component. A mechanism, such as a digital computer, determines if the measurement of the first state variable is within the first, second, or third range of values of the first state variable for the measurement of the second state variable.

Filler Material For Magnet Resonant System Self-Shielded Gradient Coil Assemblies

US Patent:
6441614, Aug 27, 2002
Filed:
Dec 2, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/453082
Inventors:
William Alan Edelstein - Schenectady NY
Robert Arvin Hedeen - Clifton Park NY
Anthony Mantone - Brookfield WI
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Niskayuna NY
International Classification:
G01V 300
US Classification:
324318, 324320, 324322, 324307, 324309
Abstract:
A self-shielded gradient coil assembly for an MR imaging system has inner and outer gradient coil windings disposed in coaxial relationship and defining a hollow annular space therebetween. Inner and outer helical cooling tubes are affixed to the outer and inner surfaces of the inner and outer gradient coil windings, respectively, by a thermally conductive epoxy, and a concrete filler material substantially fills the remaining hollow annular space. The concrete filler material may be poured into the hollow annular space to fill the space, or a pre-formed hollow concrete cylinder may be inserted coaxially into the space, defining remaining inner and outer annular volumes which are then filled with a thermally conductive epoxy bonding together the inner and outer gradient coil windings, the cooling tubes and the hollow concrete cylinder.

System And Method For Conditioned-Based Monitoring Of A Bearing Assembly

US Patent:
6802221, Oct 12, 2004
Filed:
Mar 27, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/108971
Inventors:
Robert A. Hedeen - Clifton Park NY
Catherine Graichen - Ballston Spa NY
Cecil M. Daniel - Erie PA
Larry R. Handler - Erie PA
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Erie PA
International Classification:
G01H 108
US Classification:
73587, 73593, 73660
Abstract:
The present invention is for a system ( ) or method for conditioned based monitoring of a bearing assembly. The system ( ) comprises a sensor ( ) placed in proximity to a bearing assembly ( ). The sensor ( ) generates a signal indicative of the amplitude and frequency of the vibrational movement of the bearing assembly. A process ( ) in communication with the sensor ( ) receives the signal from the sensor ( ) and generates spectral data representative of the bearing vibrational movement. A database ( ) comprises data representative of an amplitude threshold, for at least one predetermined frequency, characteristic of a bearing fault. The processor ( ) compares the spectral data to the amplitude threshold and generates a signal indication of the bearing assembly.

Calibration Method And System For A Dynamic Combustor Sensor

US Patent:
6813925, Nov 9, 2004
Filed:
Jun 5, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/161702
Inventors:
Robert Naumiec - Clifton Park NY
Walter Smith - Ballston Spa NY
Fei Han - Schenectady NY
Eamon Gleeson - Atlanta GA
Robert A. Hedeen - Clifton Park NY
Assignee:
General Electric Company - Schenectady NY
International Classification:
G01L 2700
US Classification:
73 166
Abstract:
In one embodiment, the invention is a pressure sensor calibration system comprising a pressure chamber in fluid communication with a pressure sensor to be calibrated, the chamber is pressurized to a static pressure level. An oscillating surface on a wall of the chamber imparts a rapid pressure fluctuation in the static pressure level of the chamber. These rapid pressure fluctuations in a high-static pressure level chamber are used to calibrate the pressure sensor.
