Laminate Panel For Use In Structrual Components

US Patent:
2005005, Mar 10, 2005
Filed:
Sep 5, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/655644
Inventors:
John Wilde - Mill Creek WA, US
Jody Finnegan - Bellingham WA, US
International Classification:
B41J002/01
US Classification:
347104000
Abstract:
A laminate panel especially well suited to help form an overhead stowage bin door on an aircraft, wherein the door includes a portion of a high contrast color advertising mural or message integrally formed therewith. The door includes a honeycomb support layer on which at least one fiberglass pre-preg layer is formed. A polyvinyl fluoride (PVF) film is used as a substrate for the color mural or message. A ultraviolet (UV) curable ink is deposited directly on the PVF film via an ink jet printing process that produces a high color density, high color contrast image. The PVF film in one form is a Tedlar PVF film. The ink is cured virtually immediately after it is deposited on the PVF film. An additional layer of PVF film is then secured to a side of the printed-on PVF film opposite to that on which the ink is deposited via a layer of embossing resin to form the laminate panel. The laminate panel is then secured via a suitable adhesive to the fiberglass pre-preg and honeycomb support layer in a subsequent manufacturing step. The stowage bin door and process of making same enable a portion of a high color density, high contrast image, advertising mural or message to be integrally formed with the door.

B32B 37/18
B32B 38/00
B32B 38/10
B32B 38/18
G10K 11/168
Abstract:
An acoustic structure presenting a front surface and a back surface is provided. The acoustic structure includes a support layer comprising the back surface, a honeycomb core comprising a thickness defined between a back and a front, and a plurality of walls that define a plurality of honeycomb cells, wherein the plurality of honeycomb cells extend through the thickness of the honeycomb core opening out toward at least the front, and wherein the back of the honeycomb core is affixed to the support layer, a mesh layer affixed to the front of the honeycomb core, and a knit fabric layer affixed to the mesh layer and conforming to the front surface of the acoustic structure.

Sound Absorbing Panels

US Patent:
2021036, Nov 25, 2021
Filed:
May 21, 2020
Appl. No.:
16/880828
Inventors:
- Chicago IL, US
John C. Wilde - Mill Creek WA, US
Joshua M. Montgomery - Seattle WA, US
Phuong Minh Nguyen - Edmonds WA, US
Joseph U. Kauffman - Bothell WA, US
Assignee:
The Boeing Company - Chicago IL
International Classification:
E04B 1/84
Abstract:
The present teachings generally relate to an acoustic panel including a backing layer, honeycomb core attached to the backing layer, a mesh layer attached to the honeycomb core, and a face sheet including a flexible acoustic fabric face sheet attached to the mesh layer. The acoustic fabric face sheet can provide improved sound dampening characteristics over, for example, a perforated face sheet, and at a lower manufacturing cost, weight, and a simplified manufacturing process. The acoustic fabric face sheet can be or include a flexible woven and/or knitted fabric including a polymer such as an aromatic polyamide that includes a meta-aramid fiber, or a fiberglass fabric.

Appl. No.:
16/687249
Inventors:
- Chicago IL, US
John Wilde - Mill Creek WA, US
Jason Drexler - Brier WA, US
International Classification:
B32B 37/12
B32B 5/10
B32B 27/06
B32B 27/08
B32B 27/12
B32B 5/18
B32B 5/02
B32B 27/30

B32B 7/12
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus to couple a decorative composite having a reinforcing layer to a panel are disclosed. An example apparatus includes a decorative layer to couple to a panel. The decorative layer including a first tile, a second tile, and an adhesive liner positioned between the first tile and the second tile to couple respective edges of first and second tiles.

Methods And Apparatus To Form Venting Pathways In Pressure Sensitive Adhesives For Laminate Stacks

US Patent:
2020004, Feb 13, 2020
Filed:
Oct 21, 2019
Appl. No.:
16/659101
Inventors:
- Chicago IL, US
John Christopher Wilde - Mill Creek WA, US
Xiaoxi Wang - Mukilteo WA, US
International Classification:
B32B 37/12
B29C 63/00
B32B 5/02
C09J 7/21
C09J 7/38
B32B 37/00
B29C 63/02
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus to form venting pathways in pressure sensitive adhesives for laminate stacks are disclosed. An example method includes forming a laminate stack including a gas permeable nonwoven layer and a pressure sensitive adhesive layer. The pressure sensitive adhesive layer has a first surface and a second surface located opposite the first surface. The first surface contacts the gas permeable nonwoven layer. The method further includes processing the laminate stack by reducing a ductility of the pressure sensitive adhesive layer such that venting pathways are formed in the pressure sensitive adhesive layer in response to a mechanical strain applied to the pressure sensitive adhesive layer via a trapped gas. The venting pathways extend through a thickness of the pressure sensitive adhesive layer to enable the trapped gas to pass through the pressure sensitive adhesive layer from the second surface to the first surface.

Structurally Embedded Lighting For Display Panels

US Patent:
2019008, Mar 21, 2019
Filed:
Oct 15, 2018
Appl. No.:
16/160471

Xiaoxi Wang - Mukilteo WA, US
Nathanial C. Cuddy - Snohomish WA, US
International Classification:
B64D 45/00
F21K 9/90
B29C 70/88
Abstract:
An embedded light source in a composite panel. A first electrode and a second electrode are associated with a first layer of material. A light source is positioned in electrical communication with the first electrode and the second electrode. An assembly comprising the first layer of material, the first electrode, the second electrode, and the light source is processed to form a multilayer panel with an embedded light source.
