Filed:
Oct 8, 1997
Appl. No.:
08/947174
Inventors:
Patrick Leahey - San Jose CA
Jerry C. Chen - Sunnyvale CA
Richard E. Remington - Fremont CA
Simon Yavelberg - Cupertino CA
Timothy Driscoll - Hamilton MT
Robert E. Ryan - Sunnyvale CA
Brian Hatcher - San Jose CA
Rolf Guenther - Monte Sereno CA
Xueyu Qian - Milpitas CA
Assignee:
Applied Materials, Inc. - Santa Clara CA
International Classification:
C23C 16507
US Classification:
118723I, 118724, 118 58, 118715
Abstract:
A closed-loop, dome thermal control apparatus containing a high-volume fan, a heat exchange chamber, and an enclosure that encloses the fan and the heat exchange chamber. The fan blows air over a dome of a semiconductor wafer processing system and through the heat exchange chamber to uniformly control the temperature of a dome of a plasma chamber to prevent particle contamination of the wafer. The enclosure recirculates the temperature controlled air to the fan to form a closed-loop apparatus.

Portable Ccd Contact Scanner

US Patent:
2013000, Jan 3, 2013
Filed:
Jul 1, 2011
Appl. No.:
13/175547
Inventors:
Dean Finnegan - Dublin CA, US
Jerry Chung-Hung Chen - Castro Valley CA, US
International Classification:
H04N 1/04
US Classification:
358483
Abstract:
A hand-held, portable, contact scanner using CCD scanning technology in conjunction with power regulation, noise reduction and image stitching. The scanner uses various movement tracking technologies to determine when the scanner is in contact with a document to be scanned. A dual roller system is used to effectively track motion of a contact scanner across a target document. Alternatively, movement detection is performed by a reflected laser or infra-red (IR) output.

Optical Passband Filters

US Patent:
5926587, Jul 20, 1999
Filed:
Sep 8, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/925515
Inventors:
Jerry Chia-yung Chen - Keyport NJ
Corrado Dragone - Little Silver NJ
Assignee:
Lucent Technologies Inc. - Murray Hill NJ
International Classification:
G02B 612
US Classification:
385 14
Abstract:
Two or more wavelength routers are cascaded together to form a passband filter with low levels of crosstalk between different channels of a wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) stream. Cascading wavelength routers is a technique that can be used to efficiently realize wide and flat passbands, but high levels of cross-talk may result from multi-path interference caused by grating lobes, which produce unwanted transmission paths between the two routers. Spatial filtering can be applied to inhibit the propagation of light-energy along the unwanted paths, and it can be implemented using any suitable techniques including pinholes, reflectors, waveguides, and multi-mode interferometers (MMIs). The resulting passband filter can be designed to generate levels of crosstalk similar to those of conventional passband filters that rely on a single waveguide router.

Signal Router With Coupling Of Multiple Waveguide Modes For Provicing A Shaped Multi-Channel Radiation Pattern

US Patent:
5889906, Mar 30, 1999
Filed:
May 28, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/864053
Inventors:
Jerry Chia-yung Chen - Keyport NJ
Assignee:
Lucent Technologies Inc. - Murray Hill NJ
International Classification:
G02B 626
H04J 1400
US Classification:
385 28
Abstract:
A signal router includes a free space region with input and output sides. A number of input and output waveguide arms extend from the respective input and output sides of the free space region. At least a subset of the input or output waveguide arms are configured such that a signal applied to one of the waveguide arms excites multiple modes of that waveguide arm. Coupling between the multiple modes of the various waveguide arms is used to shape a multi-channel output radiation pattern of the router. The excitation of multiple modes may be provided by configuring a given waveguide arm to include a first portion and a second portion, with the second portion arranged between the first portion and a side of the free space region and having a width which is greater than a width of the first portion. Alternatively, the excitation of multiple modes may be provided by including one or more auxiliary waveguide arms between a given pair of main input or output waveguide arms. In either case, a desired multi-channel radiation pattern for a given router may be provided by altering characteristics of the waveguide arms.

Temperature Control System For Process Chamber

US Patent:
6326597, Dec 4, 2001
Filed:
Apr 15, 1999
Appl. No.:
9/292726
Inventors:
Dmitry Lubomirsky - Cupertino CA
Allen I. D'ambra - Millbrae CA
Edward L Floyd - Santa Clara CA
Qiwei Liang - Fremont CA
Daniel J Hoffman - Saragota CA
Victor H Fuentes - Sunnyvale CA
Simon Yavelberg - Cupertino CA
Jerry C Chen - Santa Clara CA
Assignee:
Applied Materials, Inc. - Santa Clara CA
International Classification:
B23K 1000
US Classification:
219494
Abstract:
Temperature control of a process chamber 25 is achieved by directing a flow of gas at an external surface 100 of the chamber 25. In one aspect, gas directed at the chamber 25 passes through a gas flow amplifier 115 that increases the gas flow. Gas for the temperature control can be drawn in from the ambient air and, after passing over the process chamber 25, the gas can flow out through an outlet 150. Data is presented demonstrating superior temperature control performance over a conventional system.

Systems And Methods For Resetting Electronic Devices

US Patent:
2022035, Nov 3, 2022
Filed:
Apr 29, 2022
Appl. No.:
17/661465
Inventors:
- Mountain View CA, US
Emeka Godswill Ugwu - Milpitas CA, US
Adam Umar Abdul Kareem - Bolingbrook IL, US
Jerry Chung-Hung Chen - Castro Valley CA, US
International Classification:
H04B 5/00
Abstract:
A method for a hard reset of a target electronic device includes establishing a near field communications (NFC) channel to the target electronic device, receiving a wireless signal at the target electronic device over the NFC channel, and comparing a signature of the received wireless signal with a predefined characteristic signature of a reset command signal. Responsive to the comparing, the method includes generating a reset signal resetting the target electronic device.

Self-Driving Sensor System

US Patent:
2021029, Sep 23, 2021
Filed:
Aug 11, 2020
Appl. No.:
16/990491
Inventors:
- Mountain View CA, US
YooJung Ahn - Mountain View CA, US
Jared Gross - Belmont CA, US
Joshua Newby - San Francisco CA, US
Jerry Chen - San Francisco CA, US
Ralph Shepard - Menlo Park CA, US
Adam Brown - Mountain View CA, US
International Classification:
G01S 7/481
G01S 7/52
G01S 17/931
G01S 17/08
G01S 13/86
Abstract:
The technology employs a contrasting color scheme on different surfaces for sensor housing assemblies mounted on exterior parts of a vehicle that is configured to operate in an autonomous driving mode. Lighter and darker colors may be chosen on different surfaces according to a thermal budget for a given sensor housing assembly, due to the different types of sensors arranged along particular surfaces, or to provide color contrast for different regions of the assembly. For instance, differing colors such as black/white or blue/white, and different finishes such as matte or glossy, may be selected to enhance certain attributes or to minimize issues associated with a sensor housing assembly.
