Location Detection System

US Patent:
2002000, Jan 3, 2002
Filed:
Apr 2, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/825579
Inventors:
R. Crowson - Clyde Hill WA, US
William Clise - Seattle WA, US
Assignee:
Locate Networks, Inc.
International Classification:
G01S005/14
US Classification:
342/357100
Abstract:
To increase the accuracy by which the location of an object can be determined, the present invention combines the accuracy of a GPS receiver () with a two-way paging system (). A two-way pager () receives information indicative of the position of a GPS receiver () and transmits the information on a reverse channel to a paging service (). The information is forwarded to a location determination service () that, if possible, converts the information into a location of the object and is provided to a requestor. In one embodiment of the invention, the requestor is a cellular call processor () and the object is a cellular telephone (). The location information is used by the cellular call processor () to direct an emergency call to the appropriate emergency agency () as well as to provide emergency personnel with a map showing the location of the caller.

Method And Apparatus For Wirelessly Disabling Electronic Devices

US Patent:
2002014, Oct 10, 2002
Filed:
Feb 20, 2002
Appl. No.:
10/079064
Inventors:
William Clise - Seattle WA, US
Assignee:
Locate Networks, Inc.
International Classification:
G08C019/00
US Classification:
340/825720
Abstract:
A system for remotely controlling the operation of electronic equipment. A wireless broadcast transceiver communicates with electronic devices having corresponding wireless reception transceivers. The wireless broadcast transceiver transmits signals which inform the electronic device that it is not to operate within a specific zone or during a particular time. The wireless transceivers are preferably compatible with the Bluetoothâ„¢ wireless communication protocol that operates within a limited range using low power. In one environment, the transceivers disable electronic equipment on an aircraft during take off and landing.

Personal Communication System And Method Of Use

US Patent:
5797091, Aug 18, 1998
Filed:
Mar 7, 1995
Appl. No.:
8/399725
Inventors:
William E. Clise - Seattle WA
Richard Michael Crowson - Seattle WA
Assignee:
Xypoint Corporation - Seattle WA
International Classification:
H04Q 720
US Classification:
455404
Abstract:
A personal communication system for communication with another entity uses global positioning system receiver, phone book storage, and audio input as alternative forms of generating position data. A transmitter communicates a service request and the position data to the other entity, which in turn, relays the request to the appropriate party. Alternatively, the personal communicator may directly contact the desired individual. The personal communicator also includes a plurality of command buttons to control operation and a display to provide the user with instructions and data. The personal communicator also includes a sound generator to generate a loud sound upon manual command by the user or by remote command from the other entity. The transmitter can be an analog data link or part of any packet data radio communication link.

Data Request Router For Use With Emergency Public Safety Answering Point Systems

US Patent:
6064722, May 16, 2000
Filed:
Jan 14, 1997
Appl. No.:
8/783478
Inventors:
William E. Clise - Seattle WA
Michael Crowson - Seattle WA
Assignee:
XYPOINT Corporation - Seattle WA
International Classification:
H04M 1104
H04M 700
H04M 300
H04H 700
US Classification:
379 37
Abstract:
A data request router for use with a public safety answering point (PSAP) system. The router receives a data request from the PSAP system and transmits the data request to a primary database and an alternate information sources. The router is capable of determining whether the primary database is able to provide the data requested by the PSAP system. If the router determines that the primary database is unable to provide the data requested, it receives a reply from the alternate information source and transmits the data contained in the reply from the alternate information source to the PSAP system. In one aspect, the router includes a switch designed to directly connect the PSAP system to the primary database when the router becomes inoperative either due to a failure or loss of power. In another aspect, the router transmits the data request received from the PSAP system to the primary database and determines that the primary database is unable to provide the data requested when a reply from the primary database does not contain the data requested. In another aspect of the invention, the router determines that the primary database is unable to provide the data requested by the PSAP system by analyzing the data request received from the PSAP system.
