Inventors:
Jeffrey H. Sinsky - Marlboro NJ
Theodore Sizer - Little Silver NJ
Don Taylor - Toms River NJ
Assignee:
Lucent Technologies Inc. - Murray Hill NJ
International Classification:
H01Q 322
US Classification:
342368, 342174, 342372
Abstract:
A method, controller, system, and computer program for generating data points by measuring the power of the transmitted/received signal while each antenna element is rotated through a series of phase angles. Thereafter, a pairwise comparison of these data points is performed in order to determine the phase and amplitude corrections needed for each antenna element. This pairwise analysis uses as few as three signal measurements for each antenna element, made at sparse, arbitrarily spaced phase angles. Further, the method includes smart data selection to ignore bad data points resulting from anomalies or noise bursts.

Abstract:
The present invention provides a method is provided for soft vertical handovers. The method includes requesting a handover from a first wireless network that operates according to a first protocol to a second wireless network that operates according to a second protocol, the first protocol being different than the second protocol, via a first wireless telecommunication link that operates according to the first protocol. The method also includes forming, in response to the handover request, a second wireless telecommunications link according to the first and second protocols, the second wireless telecommunications link being concurrent with the first wireless telecommunication link. The method further includes dropping the first wireless telecommunications link after forming the second wireless telecommunications link.

Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for transmitting voice packet data over a selected one of a first network in which multiple devices belonging to a defined set communicate with each other according to a first protocol and a second network in which multiple devices communicate with each other according to a second protocol, different from the first protocol. The method includes establishing at least one radio bearer between at least two devices in the first network according to the first protocol, receiving at least one voice packet that conforms to the second protocol, modifying the at least one voice packet to conform to the first and the second protocols, and transmitting the at least one modified voice packet using the at least one radio bearer.

System And Method For Obtaining Real Time Survey Information For Media Programming Using Input Device

US Patent:
2002005, May 16, 2002
Filed:
Jan 26, 1999
Appl. No.:
09/237503
Inventors:
KATHERINE GRACE AUGUST - MATAWAN NJ, US
NORMAN R. SHAER - LOCUST NJ, US
THEODORE SIZER - LITTLE SILVER NJ, US
International Classification:
G06F007/00
US Classification:
707/005000
Abstract:
A system and method for monitoring media audience habits and for obtaining real time responses to survey queries posed to a user from a survey provider concerning programming experienced by the user. A media program identifier located in an environment containing a primary media receiving device identifies media programming experienced by the user on the primary device. An input unit also located in the environment containing the primary receiving device obtains user identification and user demographics information by receiving responses to specific queries from the user. Survey queries concerning programming experienced by the user are provided to the user on the input unit or the primary receiving device for responding thereto. The programming identification, user identification and demographics information as well as survey query responses are then transmitted to a survey provider for use in deriving media program ratings information.

System And Method For Conducting Wireless Customer/Vendor Transactions

US Patent:
2002014, Oct 3, 2002
Filed:
Mar 28, 2001
Appl. No.:
09/818616
Inventors:
Katherine August - Matawan NJ, US
Theodore Sizer - Little Silver NJ, US
International Classification:
G06F017/60
US Classification:
705/026000
Abstract:
A method and apparatus are described for providing a wireless system for placing orders at a vendor transaction facility, for example, a fast food restaurant. A local temporary communications link is established between a personal communications device carried by a customer and a vendor transaction facility and customer ordering is done over the communications link before the customer reaches the vendor facility, so that an order is placed and a transaction completed before the customer reaches the vendor facility. As a result, only order fulfillment is necessary when the customer reaches the vendor facility.

A System And Method Of Transmitting Position Data

US Patent:
2003006, Apr 10, 2003
Filed:
Jan 2, 1997
Appl. No.:
08/778124
Inventors:
KUO-WEI H. CHEN - SCOTCH PLAINS NJ, US
PETER F. DRIESSEN - ABERDEEN NJ, US
RICHARD D. GITLIN - LITTLE SILVER NJ, US

THEODORE SIZER - LITTLE SILVER NJ, US
International Classification:
G01C021/00
G01S003/02
US Classification:
073/17800R
Abstract:
The present invention is a system and method for automated position location using RF signposting. The present invention comprises a plurality of transmitting units placed throughout a service area. Each transmitting unit repeatedly transmits a signal including position information related to a position associated with the transmitting unit. The position information may be an absolute position or an encoded position based on the structure of a building in which the transmitting unit is located. A receiving unit receives the signal transmitted from a transmitting unit and determines the position of the receiving unit, based on the received indication. The transmitting units are placed to provide uniform coverage of the service area, thus providing position location indoors and in urban areas where GPS does not function properly.

System And Method Of Noise Reduction In Receiving Wireless Transmission Of Packetized Audio Signals
