Method For Am Band Interference Suppression Via Frequency Shift

US Patent:
7197290, Mar 27, 2007
Filed:
Sep 18, 2003
Appl. No.:
10/665795
Inventors:
Vipul M. Patel - Livonia MI, US
Assignee:
General Motors Corporation - Detroit MI
International Classification:
H04B 1/10
US Classification:
455296, 4553431, 455345
Abstract:
Methods are provided for suppressing interference in a motor vehicle radio such as an AM radio from the operating frequency or the harmonics of the operating frequency of a source of time varying signal such as a switching power supply in response to tuning the radio to a selected frequency. The method comprises the steps of communicating the selected frequency to the source of time varying signal, comparing the selected frequency to the operating frequency and to the harmonics of that operating frequency, and adjusting the operating frequency if the operating frequency or any of the harmonics of the operating frequency fall within a predetermined interference range of the selected frequency.

Method For Improving Fuel Economy In Hybrid Vehicles

US Patent:
7240750, Jul 10, 2007
Filed:
Jul 22, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/187494
Inventors:
Vipul M. Patel - Livonia MI, US
Assignee:
GM Global Technology Operations, Inc. - Detroit MI
International Classification:
B60K 1/00
US Classification:
180 652, 180 653
Abstract:
The present invention provides a method for improving fuel economy in hybrid vehicles. More precisely, the method of the present invention includes a selectable “learn mode” in which the vehicle can learn a particular driving schedule. After a particular driving schedule is learned, the schedule can be recalled to optimize fuel economy on future trips following the same route. By recalling a learned schedule, the system knows in advance what energy level will be needed and can proactively charge the hybrid vehicle's battery to an appropriate level.

Led Turn Signal And Error Detecting Method

US Patent:
7301447, Nov 27, 2007
Filed:
Apr 13, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/105090
Inventors:
Vipul M. Patel - Livonia MI, US
Assignee:
GM Global Technology Operations, Inc. - Detroit MI
International Classification:
B60Q 1/34
US Classification:
340475, 340458, 34081545
Abstract:
A motor vehicle turn signal and a method for detecting an error in the turn signal are provided. The turn signal comprises a plurality of LEDs arranged in parallel banks and receiving current from a power source. A detector coupled to each of the parallel banks provides an error message if the current in one of the banks falls outside a predetermined limit. A current sink is coupled to the power source and is configured to be activated in response to the error message. When activated, the current sink causes a change in state of the power source. In accordance with one embodiment of the invention, detection of the change in state of the power source causes the generation of an error indicator to alert the driver to a turn signal malfunction.

Method For Suppressing Motor Vehicle Radio Interference

US Patent:
7457604, Nov 25, 2008
Filed:
Jan 26, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/043722
Inventors:
Vipul M. Patel - Livonia MI, US
Assignee:
General Motors Corporation - Detroit MI
International Classification:
H04B 1/10
US Classification:
455296, 455297, 455298, 4553431
Abstract:
A method is provided for suppressing interference in a motor vehicle radio that is capable of executing a seek/scan function. Interference may occur from signals generated by a source of time varying signal that operates in the motor vehicle at a predetermined operating frequency. The method comprises the steps of sending a message indicating initiation of a seek/scan function. In response to this message, the operating frequency of the source of time varying signal is cycled between the predetermined operating frequency and an adjusted operating frequency.

Method For Reducing The Effect Of Impulse Noise In A Motor Vehicle Radio

US Patent:
7613438, Nov 3, 2009
Filed:
Feb 9, 2005
Appl. No.:
11/053990
Inventors:
Vipul M. Patel - Livonia MI, US
Assignee:
GM Global Technology Operations, Inc. - Detroit MI
International Classification:
H04B 1/10
US Classification:
455223, 455296, 375346
Abstract:
Methods are provided for reducing impulse noise effects in a motor vehicle radio. One method includes the steps of first detecting impulse noise received by the motor vehicle radio. The received impulse noise is classified as either short pulse width impulse noise or as long pulse width impulse noise. The short pulse width impulse noise can generally be blanked without seriously affecting the audio quality of the radio. For the long pulse width impulse noise, a maximum long pulse width blanking repetition rate is set and such impulse noise pulses are blanked at a blanking rate less than the maximum long pulse width blanking repetition rate.

Systems And Methods For Suppressing Radio Interference From A Noise Source Via Active Filtering

US Patent:
7848707, Dec 7, 2010
Filed:
Feb 25, 2009
Appl. No.:
12/392306
Inventors:
Vipul M. Patel - Northville MI, US
Assignee:
GM Global Technology Operations, Inc. - Detroit MI
International Classification:
H04B 17/00
US Classification:
455 6713
Abstract:
Systems and methods are provided for suppressing radio interference from a noise source having an operating frequency. One system includes memory for storing a threshold signal strength, a re-configurable filter for selectively filtering signals of a harmonic of the operating frequency, and a controller. The controller is configured to compare a signal strength of a received signal to the threshold signal strength and turn ON the re-configurable filter if the signal strength of the received signal is less than or equal to the threshold signal strength. A method includes determining a noise signature for the motor vehicle and associating a signal strength threshold with the noise signature. The method further includes comparing a signal strength of a tuned radio station to the signal strength threshold and turning ON the filter if the signal strength is less than or equal to the signal strength threshold.

Method And System For Determining The Feasibility Of An Automotive Exhaust Catalyst

US Patent:
7856868, Dec 28, 2010
Filed:
May 17, 2007
Appl. No.:
11/750010
Inventors:
William E. Leisenring - Tecumseh MI, US
Vipul Patel - Canton MI, US
Kevin Deweerdt - Wolverine Lake MI, US
Assignee:
Chrysler Group LLC - Auburn Hills MI
International Classification:
G01M 15/10
US Classification:
7311475
Abstract:
This technology provides methods and systems for catalyst feasibility analysis and the optimal determination of automotive catalyst specifications utilizing, but not limited to, light-off performance, air-to-fuel ratio tolerance, and steady state emissions performance catalyst criteria. This technology additionally provides a catalyst feasibility index algorithm that includes various catalyst criteria inputs and provides for weighting factors to independently value each catalyst input. The technology further provides for the optimal determination of automotive catalyst specifications in order to reduce vehicle toxic exhaust emissions such as hydrocarbons (HC) and oxides of nitrogen (NO).
